I find it no coincidence that our “gut” instincts are related to our actual gut. When you have experienced trauma, major life changes or intense stress and anxiety, your gut health takes a beating – not only mentally, but physically. Stress symptoms begin to show up everywhere.
This has been the case for me.
As years of unresolved, buried heartbreaks began to surface and bear messy, infected scars, I felt like I was sitting in a pile of random, broken pieces to a puzzle – not sure where or how to put them together.
My spirit was one of the broken pieces.
So was my mind.
So was my body…
I knew healing was needed in my mind and spirit and I poured all of my energy into them (which was good; many of my recent blogs center around that journey). But, I still was neglecting my body.
Throughout the years leading up to this, my body began to show signs of wear.
I couldn’t eat the same foods, didn’t feel well most of the time and eventually I developed IBS, acid reflux and loads of digestion issues.
The pain I was trying to heal in my gut-soul area, had bled into my actual gut…I decided it was time to focus on my body’s healing too.
Now, I’m not against medicines. I am a fan of them and take my fair share for depression and anxiety.
BUT, I really wanted to try to heal my body naturally.
According to an article on WebMD, “Stress can affect all aspects of your life, including your emotions, behaviors, thinking ability, and physical health. No part of the body is immune”. The article also includes a comprehensive list of physical symptoms that can be a result from stress, some of which include digestive issues.
My mind and spirit were learning that they no longer needed to be in stress-mode, but my body was not getting the message. I decided to jump into the world of health and learn what I could do naturally to re-set my gut health.
Now, I am no doctor and I don’t pretend to know anything about dietary health – but, what I do know, is that I am proof that stress can wreak havoc on our bodies.

I am happy to say that I no longer deal with IBS and the majority of my digestive inflammation and bloating issues are gone (I can even eat many of the foods that I used to react to – happy, blessed cake day).
